The Rwanda National Police has issued a warning to Nigerian content creator Joe Bassey after he shared a video filmed while seated on an active roadway in Rwanda.
Bassey had posted the clip to highlight the country’s cleanliness. However, authorities said the method of filming contravened road safety regulations and endangered both the creator and other road users.
In a statement shared on X, the police acknowledged the positive intent behind the video but stressed that safety rules must be observed at all times.
“Hello, while we appreciate the good intentions behind this clip, recording content in the roadway is unsafe and violates road safety regulations, as it puts road users at risk. For everyone’s safety, we advise that filming be done in safe areas. Thank you,” the statement read.
The advisory underscores Rwanda’s strict approach to road safety compliance and serves as a reminder to digital creators to prioritise safety when producing content in public spaces.
Authorities did not indicate that further action would be taken but reiterated the need for adherence to traffic laws.
