Russia’s Defence Ministry has claimed that its air defence systems shot down 193 Ukrainian drones overnight, marking one of the largest reported aerial assaults since the start of the war.
In a statement posted on Telegram, the ministry said: “During the past night, air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 193 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.”
Local authorities confirmed that one person was killed and five others injured when a minibus was struck in the border village of Pogar, in Russia’s Bryansk region. The region’s governor, Aleksandr Bogomaz, said the vehicle was hit during the overnight barrage.
According to the ministry, Russian forces intercepted 47 drones over Bryansk alone, while 40 others were downed in the Moscow region, many of which were reportedly headed toward the capital.
The Russian military has continued to conduct near-daily missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure — particularly targeting the country’s energy facilities — as the full-scale invasion, launched in February 2022, grinds into its third year.
Ukraine, in turn, has stepped up its cross-border drone operations, frequently targeting Russian oil refineries, power stations, and energy hubs, in an effort to disrupt Moscow’s war machine.
