Nigerian singer Michael Olayinka, popularly known as Ruger, has voiced concern over the growing wave of kidnappings across the country, warning that the situation could worsen during the upcoming festive season.
In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, the ‘Asiwaju’ crooner said he fears for the safety of Nigerians and foreigners who will be travelling across the country this December.
Ruger lamented that kidnapping has evolved into a “full-time business” in several parts of Nigeria, stressing that urgent action is needed to prevent further attacks.
“I’m scared for people this December,” he wrote. “Kidnapping has become a full-time business in some parts of Nigeria and it’s only going to get worse this festive season. People will travel back to their villages from abroad and from many other places in Nigeria. These bastards will strike hard.”
His remarks reflect growing public anxiety over insecurity and violent crimes ahead of the holiday period, a time when many Nigerians traditionally return home to celebrate with family.
Security experts have repeatedly urged authorities to tighten surveillance and boost law enforcement across highways and rural communities, particularly in regions with high kidnapping incidents.
Ruger’s warning adds his voice to a mounting call for government intervention to safeguard lives during the December travel season.
