Manchester United icon Roy Keane has delivered a scathing assessment of Ruben Amorim’s squad, asserting that he lacks confidence in the players’ ability to restore the club to elite status.
Keane argued that the current midfielders and defenders are far from the standard required to compete consistently at the highest level, even though the attacking options have shown some improvement this season.
The former United captain shared his views after the Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham United in their Premier League fixture at Old Trafford on Thursday.
“The attacking players have given United a bit of a boost this year; certainly, they are more of a goal threat,” Keane said on Sky Sports.
“But I would not sit here and hang my hat on these midfield and defensive players, that they are good enough to play regularly and do the business week-in, week-out for Man United.
“I would not trust these players to get Manchester United back up competing for the big prizes.”
The stalemate against West Ham leaves Manchester United positioned eighth in the Premier League, having collected 22 points from 14 matches so far this season.
