Nollywood actor Rotimi Salami has voiced concern over the weak box office performance of his newly released film Kilanko.
The movie, directed by the late Ademola Allwell, is currently showing in Nigerian cinemas but has struggled to draw large audiences.
Salami shared his concerns in an Instagram post accompanied by a video featuring veteran actress Yetunde Wunmi. In the clip, the actor disclosed that ticket sales over the previous weekend were below expectations.
According to him, the low turnout has raised fears that the film could be removed from cinema screens sooner than planned.
Appeal to Fans
While expressing gratitude to fans who attended meet-and-greet sessions and screenings, Salami admitted that the overall turnout remained small.
He urged supporters and movie lovers to show up at cinemas in greater numbers, warning that the film risks being pulled from theaters if the situation does not improve before the weekend.
“I am making this post with a heavy heart,” he wrote. “Kilanko sales at the cinemas last weekend weren’t good.”
The actor explained that the disappointing figures affected his social media activity, as he chose not to post after learning about the weekend’s sales performance.
Risk of Early Removal
Salami further noted that the coming weekend could determine the movie’s fate at the box office.
“If Kilanko doesn’t make the expected figure by this weekend, it might be kicked out of the cinemas even before Ramadan is over,” he said, urging fans to help the film reach a “retainable figure.”
Despite the slow start, Salami described Kilanko as a compelling production that audiences should not miss. He also expressed appreciation to Yetunde Wunmi for her support and prayers for the film’s success.
The appeal highlights the challenges Nollywood filmmakers often face in attracting cinema audiences despite strong promotional efforts.
