Brazilian football icon Romário has expressed a clear preference for Barcelona’s teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal over Real Madrid’s talismanic forward Vinícius Júnior. The former World Cup victor shared his high appraisal of the youngster’s technical ceiling during a recent dialogue with Real Madrid goalkeeping legend Iker Casillas, identifying Yamal as a standout figure in the sport’s modern era.
The endorsement follows a landmark season for Yamal, whose instrumental performances propelled Barcelona to a domestic LaLiga title, finishing ahead of their rivals from the capital. His meteoric rise was further validated by his standing on the global stage, where he secured a second-place finish in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings, narrowly trailing his teammate and winner, Ousmane Dembélé.
When prompted by Casillas to weigh the merits of both stars, Romário did not hesitate to highlight the unique potential he sees in the Catalan club’s academy graduate.
“I would go with Lamine.
“I really like Yamal, he is one of the most talented players in the world among this new generation. I am certain he will have an exceptional career,” Romário stated.
