Benin Republic head coach Gernot Rohr has named Remo Stars goalkeeper Serge Obassa in his 25-man squad for this month’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Nigeria.
Rohr, who previously managed the Super Eagles, unveiled his selection at a press conference in Cotonou on Friday.
Obassa, 23, has impressed since joining Nigeria Premier Football League champions Remo Stars last season, establishing himself as the club’s first-choice shot-stopper. His performances have now earned him a recall to the national team.
The squad also includes regulars Saturnin Allagbe, Olivier Verdon, Mohamed Tjani and Cedric Hountounji, while attacking options are led by captain Steve Mounie, Junior Olaitan, Jodel Dossou and Tosin Ayegun.
The Squirrels will face Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Friday, 10 October, before travelling to Uyo to take on Nigeria four days later at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Both fixtures are expected to play a decisive role in the battle for qualification from Group C.
