Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Kelechi Iheanacho suffered a hamstring injury during the club’s 2-1 UEFA Europa League victory over Austrian side Sturm Graz on Thursday night.
The Nigerian striker was forced off early in the encounter after appearing to pull up in discomfort, prompting concern among Celtic fans over his fitness.
Speaking to sports journalists after the match, Rodgers confirmed that Iheanacho — along with teammate Mikey Johnston — is facing a potentially lengthy spell on the sidelines.
“The first two [Iheanacho and Johnston]? It doesn’t look great. It looks like hamstrings. But okay, that’s what happens,” the Celtic boss said.
Iheanacho joined Celtic Park on a free transfer earlier this summer and has quickly become Rodgers’ first-choice striker, delivering a series of impressive performances since his arrival.
His absence could now pose a major setback for the Scottish champions as they look to maintain their form across domestic and European competitions.
