Pastor and motivational speaker Robert Burale has sued his estranged wife Rozina Mwakideu, and her brother Alex Mwakideu, for alleged defamation. The move follows an interview featuring the two that was posted on the latter’s YouTube channel.
Describing himself as a versatile and ethical pastor, mentor and chairman of the men’s conference, Burale says Alex allowed his sister to make disparaging comments about him when he hosted her on the show.
Other than seeking Sh20 million compensation as general damages, Burale wants the court to order Alex to delete the video from YouTube and offer an apology.
“A mandatory injunction requiring the defendant to make an appeal to the general public to delete the video in toto and not to interact with the same, inclusive of expungement of already downloaded contents on the same,” Burale said in the petition filed before a Milimani magistrate.
Senior principal magistrate SK Onjoro certified the case as urgent and directed Burale to serve the papers to the Mwakideu sibings ahead of hearing on October 23.
According to Burale, his Christian calling of being a minister of God has been unlawfully hindered or deterred and his future attempts to recruit and impact people’s lives as a pastor jeopardised by the interview.
He said he has incurred tremendous costs and time in explaining himself to right-thinking members of the society. He also says he has suffered distress and embarrassment among his family, peers and the community at large.
“The Plaintiff is in a great difficulty in carrying out his business as usual,” the court papers say.
Burale adds that he is a distinguished and venerated servant of God, renowned cleric of national repute and a philanthropist of sterling character.
He said his estranged wife made comments that were detrimental to his reputation as a pastor.
He says they have been divorced for over a decade.
