Rivers United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Morocco’s RS Berkane in their CAF Champions League Group A clash at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday night.
The loss leaves Finidi George’s side without a point after two matchdays in the competition, following back-to-back defeats.
The Port Harcourt club had taken the lead in the 37th minute when Berkane midfielder Mamadou Camara inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, giving the hosts hope of securing maximum points.
However, Rivers United faltered in the closing moments of the game, frustrating their supporters. Youness El Kaabi equalized for the Moroccan side in the seventh minute of stoppage time, before Mounir Chouiar scored the decisive goal just a minute later to seal the victory.
In other Group A action, defending champions Pyramids FC will travel to face Power Dynamos of Zambia on Saturday. Rivers United will next face Power Dynamos away on January 23, 2026, as they look to recover in the competition.
