Rivers United coach, Finidi George, has expressed optimism about his team increasing their goal output as they prepare to kick off their CAF Champions League group stage campaign against reigning champions Pyramids in Egypt this Saturday.
The Pride of Rivers earned their sixth win of the 2025/26 NPFL season on Sunday, defeating Warri Wolves 2-1 in Port Harcourt. The victory moved them into third place on the league table with 23 points, just one behind leaders Ikorodu City.
However, their domestic momentum will be tested as they shift focus to continental football. Rivers United will face Pyramids on the road in their first group-stage match before returning home next Friday to host RS Berkane of Morocco in their second CAF Champions League fixture.
Despite boasting the league’s stingiest defense with only four goals conceded so far this season, Finidi George has consistently encouraged his squad to enhance their attacking play. “We must keep pushing to score more goals while maintaining our defensive solidity,” the coach remarked ahead of the trip to Egypt.
Rivers United will aim to carry their domestic form onto the continental stage as they seek to make a strong impression in Africa’s premier club competition.
