Defending champions Rivers Hoopers extended their unbeaten run in the 2025 Nigerian Basketball Premier League with a narrow 88-86 win over Kwara Falcons in a Group B clash in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
The Hoopers’ starting five—Samuel Sani, John Idoga, Victor Sunday, Favour Komene, and vice-captain Nwaiwu Buchi—set the tone early, edging the first quarter 18-17. By halftime, the champions held a 39-35 lead, with Victor Sunday and Buchi Vincent pulling the strings.
Buoyed by standout plays from Buchi, Koko Sr, and Sani, the Hoopers stretched the gap to 62-53 heading into the final quarter. But the Falcons staged a dramatic comeback, tying the game 84-84 in the closing minute.
In the end, the KingsMen’s depth and composure proved decisive, as they sealed victory to stay top of their group, which also features Delta Force and Oluyole Warriors, in the Atlantic Conference.
