Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has tipped Liverpool as the side everyone must catch in this season’s Premier League title race.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand weighed in on Arsenal’s dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park—a result that cut Liverpool’s lead at the top to just two points after the Reds suffered a shock defeat to Crystal Palace.
“This was a massive, massive shift in mindset and belief,” Ferdinand said of Arsenal’s win. “They answered a lot of the critics out there. To go to Newcastle and win is huge because if they draw that game or lose that game, questions would be asked.
“I’m not saying they will win the league, but there are moments in the season that you draw inspiration from. Newcastle is not an easy place to go. That game means so much to that team because there was so much riding on it; they had to capitalise on Liverpool dropping points.
“Liverpool are the team to beat. They are. They are the champions, they have the most experience, you have got to watch them. They are the team everyone will have to chase.”
Arsenal now sit two points behind leaders Liverpool, with both sides looking to maintain momentum as the title race gathers pace.
