Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand, has tipped Arsenal to win the Premier League title this season, insisting it is finally their turn after finishing runners-up for three consecutive campaigns.
Ferdinand made the prediction following Manchester United’s 2-1 win over defending champions Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday night.
Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire secured the win for United, while Cody Gakpo had briefly drawn Liverpool level. The defeat leaves Jurgen Klopp’s men fourth on the table — four points behind current leaders Arsenal.
Arsenal continued their impressive run with a 1-0 win over Fulham on Saturday, thanks to Leandro Trossard’s second-half strike.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand said:
“I said before a ball was kicked this season that Arsenal — this is their chance to win the league.
I felt they had to do it this year and couldn’t come second again. They’ve got a wonderful group of players; it’s probably the best squad in terms of depth in the league.
They recruited well in the summer and found a way again against Fulham yesterday. They are my favourites to win the Premier League.”
Arsenal currently sit top of the table as the title race begins to heat up heading into the winter fixtures.
