Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have made a passionate plea to the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to maintain their vigorous operations against bandits, terrorists, and kidnappers who refuse to surrender.
This appeal was voiced during Peace and Development rallies held in Gwagwalada and Lugbe on Tuesday, organized by the Ayudent Empowerment Initiative. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of peace for socio-economic development and foster support for the AFN among citizens.
During the rallies, participants credited the recent rescue of 318 kidnap victims and other operational achievements across the nation to the collaborative efforts within the AFN, particularly under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede.
Residents underscored the necessity of synergy among security agencies, government, and local communities in combatting the pervasive threat of insecurity in the country. Anselm Gambo, a spokesperson at the Gwagwalada rally, remarked,
“We commend the Armed Forces, led by General Olufemi Oluyede, for their intensified operations against threats to our nation. We urge them to continue their efforts against those who refuse to lay down arms.”
Gambo highlighted the significant successes reported in states such as Sokoto, Kano, Kogi, and throughout the South East, attributing these accomplishments to the effective collaboration among the various branches of the military.
“These achievements are commendable, and we hope to see this momentum sustained,” he added.
In Lugbe, a local taxi driver praised the AFN’s relentless actions against bandits and kidnappers, affirming that those engaging in criminal activities are now facing justice.
Victor Benson, Team Lead of the Ayudent Empowerment Initiative, expressed concern over the detrimental impact of the current security challenges and called upon the populace to support and collaborate with security forces in restoring peace. He asserted that without addressing issues of insecurity, socio-economic growth would remain unattainable.
The Peace and Development rallies extended beyond the FCT, being held in several cities, including Lagos, Kaduna, Keffi, Agbor, Nyanya, Zuba, and Mararaba, reflecting a nationwide commitment to addressing security challenges.
