The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed that three bodies have been recovered from the rubble of the Great Nigeria Insurance (GNI) building in Lagos, which was gutted by fire on Wednesday.
The agency’s spokesperson, Nosa Okunboron, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to him, the recovered victims include an adult female pulled from the collapsed structure and a man found decapitated with severed limbs. A third body was also recovered from the debris.
LASEMA said eight people, including a firefighter, sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rescued and taken to hospital for medical treatment.
The agency added that three males and two females who suffered minor injuries received first aid at the scene and were later discharged.
Okunboron noted that search and rescue operations are ongoing, with response teams from LASEMA working alongside the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Red Cross, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
He assured that the agency would provide further updates as rescue efforts continue.
