Lawmakers in the House of Representatives staged a walkout against Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Chairman Zacch Adedeji during a closed-door session, citing what they described as “arrogant” responses to their questions.
The session, focused on delayed releases for zonal intervention projects, highlighted longstanding grievances over stalled budgetary disbursements that have left contractors unpaid for weeks.
A lawmaker present at the meeting told Channels Television that members directed Adedeji to leave after his explanations failed to satisfy the House’s concerns.
According to the lawmaker, Finance Minister Wale Edun assured members that the 2024 budget would be fully funded within 48 hours, while the 2025 budget would be extended to April 2026, with 30% of funds released immediately and another 20% disbursed before December ends.
The House emphasized that these commitments must be fulfilled before proceeding with any further budgetary processes.
Lawmakers warned that they would not consider the 2026 budget estimates until all outstanding issues from previous budgets are resolved as promised.
