The House of Representatives’ special ad-hoc committee investigating the recurring killings in Plateau State has pledged to unravel the root causes of the crisis that has devastated lives in the state.
Chairman of the committee, Hon. Wale Hammed, made this known when he led members on a courtesy visit to former Plateau State Governor, Joshua Dariye, at his Abuja residence.
Hammed explained that the House, under the leadership of Speaker Abbas Tajuddeen, considered it imperative to seek lasting solutions to the security challenges, hence the decision to constitute the special committee.
“The killings and violence in Plateau State are worrisome. The House has resolved to examine the situation, engage with stakeholders, and convene a special security dialogue. This platform will enable all concerned to openly express their concerns and work towards peace,” he stated.
In his remarks, Dariye commended the lawmakers for their efforts to resolve the lingering conflict through broad consultations.
He also gave a brief history of the crises in the state, noting that both past and present conflicts have left damaging effects on Plateau. He stressed the need to address their root causes in order to restore peace and stability.
