The House of Representatives descended into a rowdy session on Tuesday following the presentation of a motion alleging illegal and criminal allocation of Federal Government land at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex.
The motion, raised by Rep. Ademorin Kuye, sought the establishment of an ad hoc committee to investigate the matter. However, several lawmakers opposed the proposal, arguing that the issue rightly falls under the jurisdiction of the existing House Committee on Commerce.
Despite the resistance, the Deputy Speaker—who presided over the session—ruled in favor of Kuye’s proposal after putting it to a vote. The decision sparked further outrage, with disgruntled members voting down subsequent motions and openly venting their displeasure, only to be repeatedly overruled by the chair.
Tensions escalated as lawmakers insisted that no additional motions should be entertained, drowning out attempts by colleagues to present new matters.
With efforts to restore calm proving ineffective, the Deputy Speaker ultimately called for an executive session in a bid to defuse the chaos.
