Remo Stars head coach, Tiago Conde, says his team is fully focused on making history by qualifying for the CAF Champions League group stage for the first time.
The Sky Blue Stars will host South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg of their second-round tie at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta, on Sunday.
Speaking ahead of the crucial encounter, Conde acknowledged the challenge but maintained belief in his players’ ability to rise to the occasion.
“It’s a big challenge for us and for our story. It’s a privilege — we are facing a team like Mamelodi Sundowns,” the Portuguese coach said in a pre-match interview.
“Our focus and determination is to do what we have never done — qualify for the group stage of the competition. It will be difficult for us and likewise for them too, because it’s eleven against eleven, and after 90 minutes the decision will be made.”
The return leg is scheduled to take place in South Africa next week, with the aggregate winner advancing to the group stage of Africa’s elite club competition.
