Veteran Nollywood actress Remi Surutu has spoken in defence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, attributing the ongoing rise in fuel prices to global dynamics rather than domestic policy decisions.
Surutu made the remarks during the launch of EKO57, a political support group established to rally backing for Tinubu’s potential second-term bid.
Addressing concerns over the cost of petrol, the actress dismissed claims that the president is responsible for the increases. She argued that fuel pricing is largely shaped by decisions made at the international level.
According to her, global leaders and external market forces play a decisive role in determining fuel costs, insisting that the situation is not unique to Nigeria.
Surutu also reaffirmed her support for the president, encouraging Nigerians to participate in the democratic process without fear or pressure. She stressed the importance of voting based on personal conviction.
In addition, she praised Tinubu’s family, describing them as “good people,” while expressing concern over what she sees as a lack of unity among the Yoruba community.
She urged Nigerians to take a broader view of global developments, suggesting that the country’s current challenges should be understood within a wider international context.
Her comments come amid continued public debate over fuel prices and economic conditions in Nigeria, with citizens and stakeholders offering differing views on the causes and possible solutions.
