As the world marks International Women’s Day on March 8, 2026, Afrobeats singer Reekado Banks has reflected on fatherhood and the role it plays in shaping how the next generation views women.
The singer said one of the most important responsibilities he carries is raising a son who understands the value and dignity of women.
“One of the greatest responsibilities I have is raising a son who understands the value of women,” he said.
Women’s Influence on His Life
According to the artiste, the strength of women has significantly influenced both his personal life and career.
He noted that from the women who raised him to those who continue to support his journey, including the woman he loves, many have played key roles in shaping who he is today.
Reflecting on these experiences, the singer said true strength is not always loud or visible, but is often expressed through sacrifice, patience and resilience.
Beyond Celebration
For Reekado Banks, the annual observance of International Women’s Day should go beyond public celebrations.
He said the occasion should inspire meaningful actions and encourage cultural changes that promote respect and equality for women.
“If I’m going to call myself a leader, then I must raise leaders. And that begins with teaching my son to honour women; not just in words, but in action,” he explained.
Fatherhood and Responsibility
The singer also shared that becoming a father has reshaped his outlook on life and leadership.
While acknowledging the responsibility that comes with parenting, he noted that personal growth often comes from embracing responsibility and recognising the contributions women make in society.
Instead of symbolic gestures, he emphasised consistent respect, protection and empowerment as the most meaningful ways to celebrate women.
“Women’s History Month shouldn’t be noise. It should be culture,” he added.
