A wave of reactions has followed Senator Ned Nwoko’s recent public statement accusing his wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, of substance abuse.
The controversy began after a video surfaced online on Saturday showing Regina Daniels in a distressed state, alleging domestic violence in her husband’s home.
In response, the Delta North senator released a statement via his social media handles on Sunday, attributing the actress’s behavior to the influence of drugs and alcohol.
Nwoko claimed that Regina had moved to a location where she could access drugs freely, warning that she required urgent rehabilitation “or else, I fear for her life.”
He further alleged that her supposed brother, Sammy, and a woman identified as Ann were responsible for supplying the substances.
However, his remarks have drawn mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media. While some expressed sympathy and support for the lawmaker’s stance, others accused him of publicly shaming his wife instead of seeking help for her privately.
A user, @HiikyaaTor, wrote, “Ned Nwoko coming out to say his wife Regina Daniels is battling drugs and alcohol abuse in public is a big low. Are you trying to gain public sympathy instead of taking responsibility?”
Another user, @L_victor014, alleged that Nwoko’s comments were an attempt to discredit the actress, writing, “Ned Nwoko has shown how daft he is. Trying to blackmail Regina and her brother for taking drugs.”
Some commenters, however, sided with the senator, claiming that rumors about Regina’s alleged substance use had circulated within Nollywood long before her marriage.
The situation has since fueled widespread speculation and concern over the couple’s marriage, with many urging both parties to seek a private resolution rather than escalating the matter online.
