Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has attributed the Gunners’ impressive form this season to the influence of former Manchester United defender Gabriel Heinze, who joined Mikel Arteta’s coaching staff in the summer.
Under Heinze’s input, Arsenal have been defensively outstanding, conceding just three goals in 10 Premier League matches. The Gunners currently sit top of the table after a run of four consecutive wins, with their only blemishes coming in a loss to Liverpool and a draw with Manchester City.
Speaking after Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Burnley, Raya hailed Heinze’s intensity and impact on the team’s defensive discipline.
“He [Heinze] is a coach who wants us to fight – a lot of intensity,” Raya said.
“To win games, you have to defend very well, especially in this league. Normally, the games are won by one goal.
So, it’s really important to keep that solidity from everyone — not just the back line but every single player. A lot of credit goes to him as well.”
Arsenal will next travel to the Fortuna Arena to face Slavia Prague in the Champions League on Tuesday as they look to extend their fine run of form.
