Nollywood actor Ray Emodi has announced that he is stepping away from acting, pointing to distressing experiences on movie sets and pressure from his family as key reasons for his decision.
In a video shared on Instagram, Emodi disclosed that some filming conditions had exposed him to serious danger. He recounted shooting a movie in an undisclosed town where nearby violence made gunfire audible during production.
According to him, the situation left a lasting impact. He admitted that leaving the profession was not a choice he ever imagined making, especially after investing significant effort in building his career in Nollywood.
Emodi said the decision has not been easy and has sparked disagreement within his family. He described coming from a household that values reputation and discipline, adding that while he respects their concerns, he remains committed to choices that protect both his well-being and his family name.
The actor acknowledged that the film industry had also given him some of his most memorable experiences. However, he said turning down roles became necessary for his mental health. He admitted that rejecting opportunities was difficult, particularly when offers continued to come in, but he felt compelled to stop accepting them.
Shifting focus, Emodi revealed that he is now dedicating his energy to music. He expressed long-standing passion for the craft and announced plans to release new projects, promising quality content to his supporters.
He assured fans that his departure from acting does not mean withdrawing from public life. Instead, he described it as the beginning of a new creative chapter.
Emodi previously took a short break from acting in 2023 due to anxiety before returning to the screen. Over the years, he has featured alongside prominent Nollywood stars including Mercy Johnson-Okojie, Uju Okoli, and Ruth Kadiri.
His announcement marks a significant shift for one of YouTube’s most recognisable Nollywood faces, signaling a fresh direction in his entertainment career.
