Russian President Vladimir Putin has condemned the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, describing it as a serious breach of international law and fundamental human principles.
In a statement on Sunday, Putin said the death of Ali Khamenei was unacceptable and would be regarded in Russia as a major loss for regional diplomacy.
He noted that Khamenei played a significant role in strengthening relations between Russia and Iran, helping to elevate cooperation to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
The Russian leader extended condolences to the Iranian government and people, as well as to Khamenei’s family, expressing hope that his message of sympathy would be conveyed to those affected. He urged calm amid rising tensions following reports of the incident.
Iranian state media had earlier confirmed that Khamenei was killed during reported attacks involving United States and Israel.
