The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Ladoja, on Thursday day told advocates of new Oyo State with capital in Oyo town to put their house in order for their dream of a new state to become a reality.
Oba Ladoja while receiving the committee on the creation of Ibadan and new Oyo States at the Olubadan Palace, Oke- Aremo, Ibadan, said while the creation of Ibadan State might be easier, contentions over the name or the likely capital of new Oyo State might pose a challenge.
According to him, “Iseyin is interested in becoming a state capital, Agunrege is interested. Oyo is interested while Ogbomoso is not talking. All these towns including virgin lands are qualified to become state capital.
“If truth must be told, you need to build consensus.You need compromise.”
The monarch then implored the delegation led by Engr. Francis Adedayo and Prof Saheed Malik to emgage more in consultation, stating “Oke-Ogun has 10 local government areas, Ogbomoso has four but how much of Oke-Ogun and Ogbomoso representation do we have here? You can not wish them away.”
Speaking in the same vein, a member of the committee from Ibarapa, Dr. Ojelabi Morakinyo, said there is no doubt that Ibadan and Ibarapa have come a long way, noting that there is no controversy between the two areas.
Present at the event include the Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi,Osi Olubadan and President-General, Central Council of Ibadan Indigines (CCII), Barrister Sulaiman Ajewole, among others.
