Paris Saint-Germain have suffered another major setback with club captain Marquinhos sidelined after sustaining a left thigh injury, the European champions confirmed on Friday.
The 31-year-old Brazilian defender will undergo treatment “over the next few weeks,” PSG announced, without specifying when the injury occurred. Marquinhos played the full 90 minutes in Monday’s 1-0 defeat to arch-rivals Marseille, where he inadvertently scored an own goal.
His absence adds to PSG’s growing injury crisis, with Joao Neves, Desire Doue, and Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele already sidelined.
There was a slight boost for coach Luis Enrique, however, as Bradley Barcola returned to training on Friday after missing the Marseille loss due to muscle fatigue.
PSG host Auxerre in Ligue 1 this weekend before a crucial Champions League showdown against Barcelona on Wednesday, followed by a league trip to Lille on October 5.
