Tanzanian singer Juma Jux has suffered losses after his luxury fashion store was looted during protests that broke out following the country’s disputed general election.
The unrest, which began on Thursday, reportedly stemmed from growing anger over alleged irregularities in the presidential polls. Several opposition figures were said to have been detained or disqualified, sparking demonstrations in major cities.
Amid the chaos, social media was flooded with conflicting reports about the extent of the damage. One viral post by an X user, Bolaji Fesomade, claimed that Jux’s store, allegedly valued at $780 million, had been set ablaze by protesters.
However, the singer’s wife, Priscilla Ojo, took to Snapchat to set the record straight. She confirmed that while the store was indeed looted, it was not burned down as circulating reports had suggested.
Authorities in Tanzania have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident or provide details about the overall damage caused by the protests.
The situation remains tense as demonstrators continue to demand the cancellation of the election results and the release of detained opposition leaders.
