Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu has accused Primate Elijah Ayodele of seeking ₦150 million for spiritual intercession in Oyo State politics, triggering a heated exchange between the two prominent figures.
The dispute arose after Adelabu, a former gubernatorial candidate, petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS), alleging that Ayodele attempted to extort him and issued false prophecies aimed at undermining his political ambitions.
In his October 13, 2025 petition, submitted through his media aide Bolaji Tunji, Adelabu urged the DSS to investigate the cleric, demand a retraction of the alleged “false prophecies”, and secure a formal apology.
According to the petition, Ayodele had requested campaign-related spiritual items, including 24 APC flags and 1,000 musical instruments, with costs ranging from N50 million for local instruments to N130 million for imported ones. Adelabu rejected the request, insisting that his political pursuit is driven by public service rather than spiritual manipulation.
In response, Primate Ayodele, speaking at his church service and in interviews, denied the allegations. He described Adelabu’s claims as baseless, asserting that he never demanded money and that any guidance he offered was based on divine instruction.
Ayodele also dismissed the ₦150 million figure as exaggerated and insisted no financial transaction occurred between them.
Adelabu, who has contested the Oyo governorship twice and plans to run again in 2027, reaffirmed that his campaign is grounded in hard work, party loyalty, and service to the people, rejecting any form of “spiritual coercion”.
As of now, neither the DSS nor the Oyo State Police has confirmed whether a formal investigation into the matter has begun, leaving the controversy unresolved.
