In a significant move to bolster Nigeria’s national security, President Bola Tinubu has announced a reshuffle in the country’s top military leadership. The changes see General Olufemi Oluyede taking over from General Christopher Musa as the new Chief of Defence Staff.
The new Chief of Army Staff is Major-General W. Shaibu, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke assumes the role of Chief of Air Staff. Rear Admiral I. Abbas has been appointed as the Chief of Naval Staff. Meanwhile, Chief of Defence Intelligence Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye will continue in his current position.
The announcement, made via a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, emphasises that the appointments are effective immediately.
President Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, extended his heartfelt gratitude to General Christopher Musa and the outgoing Service Chiefs for their dedicated service and leadership. He also charged the newly appointed leaders to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, vigilance, and unity within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
“These appointments are part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture,” the statement noted, highlighting the administration’s commitment to a modern and efficient military.
