President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) following the Senate’s confirmation of its members on December 16.
The development was announced on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Dr. Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni has been appointed Chairman of NERC. Oseni, who joined the commission as a commissioner in January 2017 and later served as Vice Chairman, officially assumed office as Chairman on December 1, 2025. His tenure will run until the completion of his 10-year term, in accordance with the Electricity Act, 2023.
Dr. Yusuf Ali has been named Vice Chairman of the commission. Ali, first appointed as a commissioner in February 2022, assumed his new role on December 1, 2025, and will serve until the end of his first term.
Other members of the reconstituted board include Mr. Nathan Rogers Shatti, Mr. Dafe Akpeneye, and Mrs. Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, all serving second terms as commissioners. Shatti and Akpeneye were originally appointed in January 2017, while Bello joined the commission in December 2020.
Dr. Chidi Ike, appointed in February 2022, will serve his first term as commissioner. Additionally, Dr. Fouad Animashaun, an energy economist and former Executive Commissioner and CEO of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission, has also been appointed commissioner, with his tenure commencing in December 2025.
The statement from the Presidency emphasized President Tinubu’s charge to the new board to deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector, in strict alignment with the provisions and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has tasked the board members of NERC to advance reforms and ensure the continuous transformation of Nigeria’s electricity sector, fostering efficiency, transparency, and sustainable growth,” the statement added.
