President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially welcomed the launch of Lebara Nigeria, describing it as a major boost to the nation’s digital economy and a testament to Nigeria’s growing appeal as a technology hub in Africa.
The announcement was made in a statement from the presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, on Saturday. President Tinubu emphasized that the launch signals strong investor confidence in Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.

The President congratulated Lebara Nigeria’s management team, including CEO Teniola Stuffman, for their role in expanding telecom access, creating employment opportunities, and strengthening the nation’s digital infrastructure.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu congratulates Lebara Nigeria on its official launch, describing the milestone as a strong vote of confidence in Nigeria’s digital economy and its future as a leading technology and investment destination in Africa,” the statement read.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the Advisory Board, chaired by Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, and highlighted support from the British High Commission, represented by Deputy High Commissioner Johny Baxter, as evidence of strong economic and diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the UK.
Sector Growth and Economic Impact
President Tinubu noted that Nigeria’s telecommunications sector grew by 5.78% year-on-year in Q3 2025, contributing over 14% to the nation’s GDP.
He underscored the broader role of the ICT sector, which accounted for 10.07% of Nigeria’s real GDP in Q4 2025, up from 9.79% in 2024, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. The ICT sector encompasses telecommunications, information services, publishing, broadcasting, and motion picture and music production, demonstrating the significant economic impact of initiatives like Lebara Nigeria.
