Amid widespread speculation on social media, the Presidency has clarified that there has been no change in the office of the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.
The clarification follows viral posts claiming that the President had replaced his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, with the Principal Private Secretary, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, based on alleged “insider” information.
However, in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency described the reports as false and misleading, urging Nigerians to disregard them.
“The attention of the Presidency has been drawn to a false story circulating on social media suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has replaced his Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, with his Principal Private Secretary, Hakeem Muri-Okunola,” the statement said.
“There is absolutely no truth to this claim. The Chief of Staff remains in his position, and the Principal Private Secretary also continues in his role. Hakeem Muri-Okunola has not replaced Femi Gbajabiamila as Chief of Staff.”
The Presidency noted that the claim was fabricated by purveyors of fake news seeking to create unnecessary tension within the government.
Onanuga also advised media organisations and social media users to verify information from credible sources before sharing or publishing unconfirmed reports, stressing the need for professionalism and responsible communication.
