The Presidency on Sunday dismissed as false a viral social media video alleging that a kitchen staff member at the State House was arrested for attempting to poison President Bola Tinubu.
Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his verified X handle, @aonanuga1956, described the claim as outright fake.
“No Aso Rock kitchen staff arrested. No Aso Rock kitchen staff attempted to poison President Tinubu. Please ignore this fake news being disseminated by this video,” Onanuga stated.
His clarification followed an earlier response by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Tope Ajayi, who also dismissed the allegation.
“Fake,” Ajayi said tersely when contacted on the matter.
The rebuttals came after a video and accompanying reports circulated on some online platforms, alleging that an unnamed chef attached to the State House in Abuja had been arrested over an alleged plot to poison the President.
The report, which did not cite any credible source or provide verifiable details, quickly gained traction across social media, prompting speculation in some quarters.
However, the Presidency’s swift denial sought to quell the rumour, urging members of the public to disregard what it described as misleading and unfounded content.
As of press time, there was no indication from any security agency of an arrest, investigation, or security breach related to the allegation.
