A pregnant housewife has been brutally killed by suspected criminals in Kaleri, Jere Local Government Area of Borno State, sparking outrage and renewed concern over security in the area.
The victim, identified simply as Fatima, was reportedly seven months pregnant at the time of her death.
Sources told our correspondent in Maiduguri that the incident occurred on Sunday at her residence.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that Fatima was discovered lifeless in her home at about 6:00 p.m. with signs suggesting she was physically assaulted before being strangled.
Another source alleged that the attackers poured a corrosive substance, believed to be acid, on her body prior to the killing.
According to residents, Fatima’s husband, who had travelled to the Republic of Chad on business, has been informed of the tragic incident and is expected to return to Maiduguri today ahead of her burial.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies and relevant government authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while investigations are expected to commence to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The incident has left residents of Kaleri in shock, with calls for swift action by security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent a recurrence.
