Nigerian Afrobeats star Omah Lay has sparked conversations online after declaring that the country’s difficulties cannot be solved by prayers alone.
In a post shared on his X account on Thursday, the singer argued that meaningful change will only come when citizens take deliberate action.
“No Jesus, no Allah, no prayer is saving us. Nothing changes until we wake TF up,” he wrote.
His comment comes amid renewed calls from Christian and Islamic leaders urging Nigerians to pray for the nation, as insecurity and economic strain continue to intensify.
Several public figures have also voiced frustration over recent incidents, including the terrorist attack on a church in Kwara State and the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi State. Celebrities such as Don Jazzy, Davido, Falz, and Mr Macaroni have pressed authorities to respond urgently to the growing crisis.
On Wednesday, singer Yemi Alade weighed in on the national debate, rejecting appeals for foreign military help and insisting that Africa must craft its own solutions.
“African problems need African solutions, not new problem,” she wrote.
The discussions continue to fuel broader demands for stronger leadership and more decisive efforts to address Nigeria’s worsening security situation.
