Controversial Nigerian singer Portable has voiced concern over what he describes as poor earnings from music streaming platforms, despite consistently releasing new songs.
In a recent video, the “Zazu” crooner said he has been uploading music monthly on Apple Music but is dissatisfied with the revenue generated.
Portable attributed the low income partly to claims that streams from Nigeria are undervalued. However, he questioned why his earnings remain low despite having listeners outside the country.
According to him, his fanbase spans multiple regions, including the United States and other international markets, yet the financial returns do not reflect that reach.
The singer also raised concerns about how his streaming revenue is calculated and distributed, stating that his earnings appear to be split into multiple portions.
Seeking a solution, Portable publicly appealed to music executive Don Jazzy for guidance on how to maximise income from streaming platforms.
He expressed confidence that with the right knowledge and strategy, he could significantly increase his earnings and compete at a higher level within the Nigerian music industry.
Portable’s comments highlight ongoing conversations around streaming revenue, artist compensation, and the financial realities facing musicians in the digital age.
