Controversial Nigerian singer Portable has sparked debate after claiming that he has offered more support to emerging artists than music heavyweights Olamide, Don Jazzy, Wizkid, and Davido.
The Zazu crooner told fans that his philanthropy extends beyond the entertainment industry to help ordinary people and the less privileged. He also criticised other celebrities for being distant from their fans and failing to acknowledge those who promote their work.
“Many Nigerian celebrities don’t repost fans even when they dance to their songs or share positive content about them. I repost every positive video about me. Even with your money, many won’t let upcoming artists feature them. But I help people freely,” Portable said.
He defined true “help” as more than financial transactions, explaining that it involves providing shelter, clothing, food, and opportunities like studio sessions for aspiring artists. “Anything other than that is just business,” he added.
Portable also criticised stars who exploit emerging artists and label them “ungrateful” when they seek independence. “Most of the time, when the artists they are using for business decide to be independent, they call them ungrateful. How are they ungrateful? They were only being used for business,” he concluded.
The singer’s remarks are sure to fuel discussions about celebrity conduct, mentorship, and genuine support within the Nigerian music scene.
