Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, was on Monday arraigned before the Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State, over a nine-count criminal charge.
The charges, which include assault, theft, causing bodily harm, and resisting arrest, stem from an incident that allegedly occurred on New Year’s Day at the singer’s bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area of the state.
According to the charge sheet, Portable is accused of attacking his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, as well as several police officers who reportedly responded to the incident. Among the officers named is a female inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi.
Other individuals listed as alleged victims include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah. The singer is also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at ₦12 million, said to belong to Ileyemi Damilola.
During the court proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified as witnesses. Ashabi herself, however, was not present in court.
The presiding judge declined to grant Portable bail, citing the absence of the police officer who was allegedly assaulted. The court subsequently ordered that the singer be remanded in custody pending further proceedings, with the case adjourned until January 19.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that it is investigating a viral video circulating on social media that appears to show Portable being assaulted while in police custody.
The case has continued to attract public attention, adding to ongoing conversations around celebrity conduct, accountability, and law enforcement procedures in Nigeria.
