The Bauchi State Police Command has recovered a vehicle belonging to the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwan Adamu, and arrested a suspect alleged to have stolen it from a filling station in the state capital.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, a Superintendent of Police, said the Toyota Hilux was stolen in the early hours of Monday, January 5, 2026, at Inkiya Filling Station, Bauchi.
According to the statement, a member of the Bauchi Emirate Council, Buhari Musa Umar, reported to a police patrol team stationed at Jos Road roundabout that an unknown person had driven off with the Emirate’s vehicle.
The driver reportedly explained that he had parked the vehicle at the filling station to buy fuel while on his way to Ganjuwa Local Government Area to deliver messages on behalf of the Emir. He said he briefly stepped away to ease himself, only to return and discover that the vehicle had been stolen.
“Upon receiving the report, the patrol team immediately gave chase and successfully recovered the stolen Hilux around the Bayan Gari area, where the suspect was arrested while attempting to flee,” Habib said.
The police spokesperson added that the suspect confessed to the offence during interrogation, while investigations were still ongoing to determine whether other persons were involved.
He said the suspect would be profiled and charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and ensuring Bauchi State remains safe for residents and visitors.
