Authorities have begun an investigation into reports that popular Nigerian comedian and skit maker Broda Shaggi was shot while filming a comedy skit.
The entertainer, whose real name is Samuel Perry, was reportedly injured during a filming session on Sunday afternoon under the bridge in Sango-Ota.
Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, but a police source said the comedian sustained a gunshot wound while shooting the skit.
However, the Ogun State Police Command said it could not immediately confirm whether the incident occurred within the state.
In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information while investigations continue.
According to him, the police are still working to determine the exact circumstances of the reported shooting.
Meanwhile, sources indicated that the incident was not formally reported to the police by the comedian’s team.
Witness accounts suggested that after the injury occurred, Broda Shaggi was quickly taken to Blooming Care Hospital, where he initially received treatment.
Medical personnel reportedly administered first aid before referring him to Duchess Hospital for further care.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that a hospital had alerted officers about a gunshot victim brought to their facility.
Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi said officers and detectives were deployed to the hospital, where they discovered that the injured person was the comedian.
She added that Broda Shaggi was found on a stretcher with a gunshot injury to his thigh.
According to the Lagos police, the alleged shooting took place in Sango-Ota, which falls outside their jurisdiction, but investigations are ongoing.
When contacted, Broda Shaggi’s manager, Olufemi Oguntamu, said he was busy at the time and promised to respond later. As of the time of filing this report, no further comment had been received.
