The Bauchi State Police Command has transferred 161 kilograms of illicit drugs recovered from a suspected narcotics dealer to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), marking another significant breakthrough in the state’s fight against drug trafficking.
Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, announced the development on Friday, noting that the Command has intensified efforts to strengthen policing standards and curb criminal activities across the state.
Aliyu revealed that officers arrested one Ogbu Simon, a suspected drug trafficker, and confiscated illicit substances with an estimated street value of N12.2 million. The arrest followed credible intelligence from a concerned resident on November 26, 2025.
According to the Commissioner, operatives from the Ningi Divisional Police Headquarters had acted swiftly after receiving reports of suspicious sacks being offloaded at a shop owned by Simon. Investigations later uncovered that the suspect had been transporting narcotics from Onitsha, Anambra State, to communities in Ningi Local Government Area and neighbouring locations.
“In response to the intelligence, a team of detectives led by the DPO of Ningi, CSP Surajo Ibrahim Birnin Kudu, carried out a well-coordinated raid on the shop in Ningi town,” Aliyu said.
The raid resulted in the discovery of four large bags containing suspected Diazepam (D5) and Tramadol tablets. The Operation Restore Peace (ORP) unit subsequently conducted a detailed investigation that led to Simon’s arrest.
The suspect is said to have confessed to distributing drugs across various markets within and outside Ningi.
Aliyu called on residents to remain vigilant and continue collaborating with security agencies, assuring the public that the Command remains committed to protecting lives and property in line with its constitutional mandate.
“The suspect, alongside the seized exhibits, is hereby handed over to the NDLEA Bauchi Command for further investigation and diligent prosecution,” he stated.
Receiving the substances, NDLEA Deputy State Commander, Hussaini Ummaru, confirmed their custody and pledged a thorough investigation.
He commended the police for their strong collaboration and urged community members to keep supplying actionable intelligence to support ongoing security operations.
