The Kaduna State Police Command has thwarted a planned bandit attack in Giwa Local Government Area, killing two suspected bandits and recovering firearms during a security operation.
According to the command, the operation was launched after credible intelligence indicated an imminent attack on Idisu village in Idisu Ward of Bayan Kogi. The intelligence revealed that armed bandits, led by a notorious kingpin identified as Kachalla Sanusi Bajira, were mobilising to invade the community after residents allegedly failed to pay an illegal levy imposed on them.
The spokesperson of the command, DSP Mansir Hassan, said the Commissioner of Police immediately ordered operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, to move into the area to forestall the attack.
Upon arrival, the security team encountered the armed bandits, who had reportedly laid an ambush. A gun battle ensued, during which the police operatives overpowered the assailants, neutralising two of the suspects, while others escaped into the surrounding bushes.
The police recovered two firearms and five rounds of live ammunition at the scene of the encounter.
Commending the operatives for their courage and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, reassured residents of the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations to combat banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes across the state.
He also issued a stern warning to criminal elements, declaring that Kaduna State would not serve as a safe haven for criminal activities.
