The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one individual in connection with the death of popular singer Adesina Afeez, widely known by his stage name, Destiny Boy.
Police authorities disclosed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the artiste’s death.
In a statement issued on Monday, the command said investigations were already underway following the death of the 22-year-old musician. According to the police, one suspect is currently in custody while detectives continue their inquiries.
News of Destiny Boy’s passing emerged on Sunday after videos showing his lifeless body being conveyed to a mortuary circulated widely on social media. The footage sparked emotional reactions from fans and fueled speculation about the cause of his death.
One of the viral clips showed the late singer lying in the back of a vehicle, with cotton wool placed in his ears and nostrils, a scene that further intensified public concern.
Amid the growing rumours, an associate of the late artiste released a separate video in an attempt to clarify the situation. The individual stated that Destiny Boy had been battling an undisclosed health condition prior to his death and urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified claims.
The associate said efforts were made to manage the singer’s health challenges, but he eventually succumbed to the illness.
Destiny Boy, born Afeez Adeshina, began his music career at a young age and became known for his unique fusion of Fuji music with modern sounds. He honed his craft at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos, where he also worked as a backup dancer for veteran Fuji musician Pasuma.
He rose to prominence in 2019 after his Fuji-inspired cover of Davido’s hit song If went viral. He later released covers of songs by several top Nigerian artistes, including Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor.
In his personal life, the late singer welcomed his first child with his partner, Iremide, in November 2024.
The Ogun State Police Command assured members of the public that further updates would be provided as investigations progress, urging patience while the probe continues.
