Authorities in Adamawa have refuted viral claims that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Chairman was killed, describing the social media report as fake news.
The post, circulated on a Facebook account named “Lionman Lioni,” was described by the Adamawa State Police Command as malicious and intended to incite panic and religious tension among residents.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Suleiman, Yahaya Nguroje, said on Saturday that Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has confirmed that no such incident has been recorded anywhere in Adamawa State.
“The Command wishes to categorically refute this malicious claim in its entirety. There is no such incident recorded anywhere in Adamawa State,” the Police said.
He urged members of the public to ignore the false reports and to verify information through credible sources before sharing it online.
The Commissioner also revealed that an investigation has been launched to identify and prosecute those behind the misleading post.
