The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected car snatcher in Uyo and recovered a stolen vehicle with registration number DKA-337 CB.
The development was disclosed on Thursday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John.
According to DSP John, the suspect was apprehended on January 20, 2026, following a distress call around 11:30 pm from a bolt driver whose Toyota Corolla was allegedly stolen at gunpoint.
“Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that the suspect had fled with the vehicle. However, through prompt intelligence gathering, our operatives traced the stolen car to Nkwot Ikono village, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area,” DSP John stated.
He added that Sunday Okon, a male resident of Nna Enin village, Uruan Local Government Area, was arrested in possession of the recovered Toyota Corolla. The suspect reportedly confessed to the crime during preliminary interrogation.
The PPRO noted that the suspect remains in police custody, while a “discreet and intensive” investigation continues to apprehend other members of the criminal gang and recover their operational weapons.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, commended the swift and professional response of the operatives, assuring residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating violent crimes and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and useful information to the Police to help prevent crime.
