The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a suspected bandit in Illo District of Bagudo Local Government Area of the state.
The command also recovered two locally made firearms and four cartridges in a sting operation based on credible intelligence.
This was contained in a statement by the spokesperson for the command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, on Tuesday.
Abubakar disclosed that the arrest was made on November 9, 2025, after a swift operation led by the Divisional Police Officer of Illo, who acted on actionable intelligence
He said the operation, conducted alongside local vigilantes at Tungar Gwani village, led to the arrest of 27-year-old Buba Garba, a resident of Takalafiya village in Suru Local Government Area.
“On sighting the operatives, the suspect resisted arrest and used a knife to stab one of the vigilantes on the buttocks and left hand, inflicting serious injuries,” the police spokesman revealed.
He added that the injured vigilante was immediately taken to a nearby medical facility, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Upon searching the suspect, the operatives reportedly found one locally made gun, one local barrel pistol, and four cartridges in his possession.
In his reaction, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, commended the DPO Illo and his team for their professionalism, intelligence-driven approach, and synergy with local vigilantes.
“I appreciate the prompt and coordinated response of the Illo Division. This operation clearly shows that when security agencies and community members work together, criminal elements stand no chance,” Sani said.
He further directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi for a thorough investigation aimed at uncovering the suspect’s network and modus operandi, as well as apprehending his accomplices.
The command reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations against banditry and other forms of violent crime across the state, assuring residents that proactive measures are in place to ensure their safety.
