Police operatives in Anambra State have arrested a suspected ally of an embattled Enugu-based native doctor, Obieze Ezeani, also known as E Dey Play E Dey Show, over the abduction and murder of a six-year-old girl.
The suspect, identified as Friday Akonobi, 28, was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, in the early hours of January 17, 2026.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Akonobi was allegedly involved in the abduction and murder of Miss Ozioma Nwankwo, a six-year-old girl abducted on May 10, 2025, from Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Police said preliminary investigations revealed that Akonobi acted in collaboration with four other accomplices, currently at large, who allegedly supplied virgin girls to the native doctor for ritual purposes in exchange for a reward of ₦1 million per victim.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed that the victim was taken to Enugu and handed over to Obieze Ezeani, where she was later murdered and used for rituals.
The police said efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate and ensure they are brought to justice.
Obieze Ezeani was arrested in May last year while attempting to flee the country after decomposing bodies, including that of a pregnant woman, were discovered at his residence in Enugu. He is currently in custody awaiting trial over related offences.
