Poland has expressed interest in deepening defence ties with Nigeria, highlighting opportunities for cooperation in counter-insurgency and regional security. The remarks came from Polish Ambassador, Michał Cygan, during a visit to Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, at the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Cygan praised the professionalism and resilience of the Nigerian Armed Forces, noting the Air Force’s critical role in maintaining security across the country and supporting stability in the West African region. He also expressed Poland’s readiness to explore practical areas of bilateral defence collaboration to support Nigeria’s security priorities.
Air Marshal Aneke welcomed the engagement, emphasising that strategic international partnerships are vital in addressing modern and asymmetric security challenges. He reiterated that the Nigerian Air Force remains committed to leveraging cooperation with friendly nations to enhance operational capabilities, training, and intelligence sharing.
Speaking through NAF spokesman, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Air Force highlighted that the discussions focused on strengthening defence collaboration and supporting ongoing counter-insurgency operations nationwide. Ejodame added that the visit underscored the importance of defence diplomacy in building mutual understanding and fostering stronger bilateral relations between Nigeria and Poland.
“The visit also reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s dedication to professionalism, strategic partnerships, and sustained engagement in promoting peace, stability, and security within Nigeria and the wider region”, Ejodame said.
The Nigerian Air Force is also encouraging young Nigerians to participate in the 2025/2026 Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Literary Competition. Open to essays, art, and poetry, the contest invites youths to share ideas on security, technology and innovation, providing a platform to shape the future of air operations.
